Virgil knows the way

Export your record

The whole record goes with you. Every fact with its source, date, and revision history goes in memvelope, an open, documented format anyone can read without Virgil.

Export anytime, including the day Virgil turns the lights off. A memory company that could hold your memories hostage would have built the wrong product.

Ask in chat

In any connected app, ask Virgil to export your record. The export itself is chat-initiated. Everything security-sensitive happens outside chat, on purpose.

First-time gates

The export requires a verified email. That is where the one-time pickup code goes.

The export also requires an export passphrase. If the passphrase is not set yet, Virgil hands back a private link to a set-passphrase page.

The passphrase is set on that web page, never typed in chat, and it is stored only as a hash. Virgil can never show it back to you, so keep it somewhere safe. Minimum length is 8 characters.

The pickup

A one-time code goes to your confirmed email, and the pickup page asks for that code plus your passphrase.

Your whole record deserves more than one chat session's say-so. That is why pickup takes two proofs, one to your inbox and one only you know.

The file

What downloads is a .mve.json envelope: every fact with source, date, and revision history, active and superseded rows both. The trail is the point.

The code is consumed when the download completes.

If the passphrase is lost

Reset it from the pickup page's "Forgot your passphrase?" link. The reset is email-gated, has a deliberate 24-hour delay, and is notified at both ends. See lost passphrase troubleshooting.

Export again

Ask again anytime. Each export is a fresh pickup with a fresh code.
